Prof. Ambuj D. Sagar

Prof. Ambuj Sagar has assumed charge as the Acting CEO of DRIIV. He is currently the Deputy Director (Strategy & Planning) at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. He is also the Vipula and Mahesh Chaturvedi Professor of Policy Studies and the Founding Head of the School of Public Policy at IIT Delhi. His work lies at the intersection of science, technology, innovation, and sustainable development. Prof. Sagar holds a B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Delhi, an M.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan, and three advanced degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT): an M.S. in Materials Science, a Ph.D. in Polymer Science, and an M.S. in Technology and Policy. He has contributed extensively to energy innovation policy (including biofuels, coal power, clean cookstoves, and electric vehicles), climate change policy and governance, and institutional frameworks to promote inclusive and sustainable development. Prof. Sagar has advised multiple Indian government departments as well as international agencies. He was a Lead Author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Working Group III Sixth Assessment Report and a member of the Independent Group of Scientists appointed by the UN Secretary-General to prepare the 2023 Global Sustainable Development Report. He also serves on the Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.Before joining IIT Delhi, he was a Senior Research Associate at the Harvard Kennedy School and Assistant Dean for Strategic Planning at the Harvard Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. At DRIIV, Prof. Sagar brings a strong strategic vision and multidisciplinary expertise to accelerate innovation-driven collaborations between academia, industry, and government for solving critical national challenges.
